I have asked my friend who works in a logistic company as an operation clerk this question. It seemed that he would like to answer me “good” but finally give me a “bad” after picking up a phone call from his colleague!

However, from his point of view, despite of this bad thing, the new communication technologies did help him when he is in work. It is more convenience for him to work with his colleagues overseas. He can use the network to launch a video meeting or simply ask them questions by instant messenger such as MSN. They can cooperate better with this communication method and save a lot of money for the cost of overseas calls! LOL
New communication technologies somehow help people for their work, but also bring some harm to them! It really depends on how people use it and what the employers require workers to do!
What an interesting response! It seems like the convenience has both positive and negative elements. In a place like HK (where people are so hardworking), it's easy to see how the technology can lead to work intruding on your life!
ReplyDeleteI can understand your friend's feeling! Sometimes, my tutorial students call me to ask questions about their homework. I feel like I have to ready for their questions all the time and have no rest but I cannot refuse to answer their questions.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I think it depends on what technology tools the employee uses and how he/she manages to use it. And I agree with you that new communication technologies bring both advantages and disadvantages to our life!! :D Thank you for sharing the post. I enjoy reading it!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a coordinator which my job was to call people to work in exhibitions, I hate receiving phones calls, checking emails and facebook because I felt stressful as I needed to work at home if I received phone calls or emails from my boss. (my boss supervised me even I am at home!!) So, at that time, I hate any technological devices as I wanted to escape from my boss!!!
ReplyDeletehahaha~I understand your friend's feeling, I am working as a stundent helper in university. When I was not at office, sometimes my supervisor will send emails to me and ask me to do something for her. At that moment I think that the convinences of the new media are making troubles for me. But most of the time, the new media helps me a lot in many aspects. =P
ReplyDeleteMy answer would be yes. Due to the nature of occupation, I can hardly use computer whenever I want. Once I would like to check urgent emails from classmates, I can only use my phone to check it. The smart phone can definitely faciliate me to do things like checking emails, loging in the website of CityU, sending files to classmates, etc when I am working.
